Phasmarhabditis villasmundi sp. n. infecting land gastropods in the Nature Reserve 'Speleological Complex Villasmundo - S. Alfio' in Syracuse Province, Sicily

Summary: A new nematode species, Phasmarhabditis villasmundi sp. n., was discovered in the Villasmundo-S. Alfio Nature Reserve in Syracuse Province, Sicily, characterized by the presence of males and females, as well as distinct morphological and molecular characteristics. Phylogenetic analysis revealed its close relationship with European species P. neopapillosa and P. hermaphrodita, while P. apuliae was found to be more closely related to P. bohemica and P. californica from the New World.

Phasmarhabditis quinamensis sp. n. (Nematoda: Rhabditidae) from tropical terrestrial gastropods in southern Vietnam

Summary: A new species of parasitic nematode, named Phasmarhabditis quinamensis sp. n., was discovered in several tropical terrestrial gastropod species in Cat Tien National Park in southern Vietnam. The snail Sesara sp. was designated as the type host. This new species exhibits distinct morphological features that differentiate it from other nominal species of Phasmarhabditis. Additionally, another new species, P. meridionalis, belonging to the same genus, was also found during the study.

Phasmarhabditis kenyaensis n. sp. (Nematoda: Rhabditidae) from the slug, Polytoxon robustum, in Kenya

Summary: This study successfully isolated the parasitic nematode Phasmarhabditis sp. from the eggs of the Egyptian terrestrial snail Eobania vermiculata (Muller) for the first time. The results showed that these parasitic nematodes have the ability to infect and kill different stages of gastropods, with a better effectiveness on local pest species compared to non-local species, and the size of the parasite is proportional to the size of the host pest.
