The Predictive Value of Right Ventricular Longitudinal Strain in Pulmonary Hypertension, Heart Failure, and Valvular Diseases

Summary: RV longitudinal strain plays a crucial role in predicting adverse outcomes in various cardiovascular conditions, with higher predictive power than traditional echocardiographic parameters. It is a reliable indicator for evaluating RV function.

Summary: The study found that speckle-tracking echocardiography (STE) global longitudinal and circumferential strains provide better test-retest reliability of left ventricular and right ventricular systolic function compared to conventional echocardiographic and cardiac magnetic resonance feature-tracking parameters.

Myocardial involvement and deformation abnormalities in idiopathic inflammatory myopathy assessed by CMR feature tracking

Johannes Kersten et al.

Summary: The study found that IIM patients have lower values in myocardial deformation parameters, especially those with LGE. Over time, there is a decline in myocardial function in IIM patients during follow-up. CMR is a useful tool for diagnosing cardiac involvement in these patients.

Summary: The study found that short-term treatment with sacubitril/valsartan for 12 weeks did not lead to significant improvement in peak oxygen consumption in patients with HFrEF compared to enalapril. The safety profiles of sacubitril/valsartan and enalapril were comparable.

The Prognostic Importance of Right Ventricular Longitudinal Strain in Patients with Cardiomyopathies, Connective Tissue Diseases, Coronary Artery Disease, and Congenital Heart Diseases

Marijana Tadic et al.

Summary: Right ventricular longitudinal strain (RVLS) has shown higher predictive value in detecting adverse outcomes in cardiovascular diseases compared to traditional parameters like tricuspid annular plane excursion (TAPSE), RV myocardial performance index (MPI), and fractional area change (FAC). While echocardiography remains the main imaging tool for RVLS assessment, cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) also plays an important role in evaluating RV function.

Beta-blockers and inhibitors of the renin-angiotensin aldosterone system for chronic heart failure with preserved ejection fraction

Nicole Martin et al.

Summary: Evidence suggests that MRA and ARNI treatment in HFpEF may reduce heart failure hospitalization but have little impact on cardiovascular mortality and quality of life. BB treatment may reduce the risk of cardiovascular mortality, but further trials are necessary. Current evidence for BBs, ACEIs, and ARBs in HFpEF is limited, and their use is not supported in the absence of alternative indications. MRAs and ARNIs are likely effective in reducing heart failure hospitalization, but the treatment effects are modest, highlighting the need for improved patient stratification and new therapeutic approaches.

Left and right ventricular strain using fast strain-encoded cardiovascular magnetic resonance for the diagnostic classification of patients with chronic non-ischemic heart failure due to dilated, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or cardiac amyloidosis

Henning Steen et al.

Summary: This study compared the ability of LV and RV strain measured by fast-strain encoded cardiac MRI with LV and RV ejection fraction in diagnosing patients with different stages of chronic heart failure due to non-ischemic cardiomyopathies. The results showed that measuring strain in LV and RV myocardium can better identify patients with subclinical LV dysfunction in non-ischemic cardiomyopathy.
