Customizing 2.5D Out-of-Plane Architectures for Robust Plasmonic Bound-States-in-the-Continuum Metasurfaces

Zichen Wang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a method based on plasmonic symmetry protected-bound states in the continuum (SP-BIC) metasurfaces with out-of-plane architectures, which can achieve stable bound states even with large structural perturbations. The high-throughput fabrication is realized by using a binary-pore anodic aluminum oxide template technique. The desired out-of-plane architecture demonstrates a low detection limit for endotoxin, showing potential for biosensors and other applications.

Boosting Nitrogen Activation via Ag Nanoneedle Arrays for Efficient Ammonia Synthesis

Wanru Liao et al.

Summary: The construction of local enhanced electric fields (LEEFs) by Ag nanoneedle arrays promotes the fracture of nitrogen gas (N2) and assists in the electrocatalytic N2 reduction reaction (eNRR). The LEEFs induce charge polarization on nitrogen atoms and lower the energy barrier in the first-protonation step of N2. The cleavage of the N=N bond and the hydrogenation of N2 by LEEFs are confirmed by the detected N-N and N-H intermediates. Regulation and tuning of LEEFs to around 4 x 104 kV m-1 enables the achievement of high ammonia selectivity with a Faradaic efficiency of 72.3 +/- 4.0% in eNRR.

High-Throughput Tailorable Fabrication of Long-Range Ordered Plasmonic Coaxial Multi-Circular Nano-Slit Arrays Down to 2 nm for SERS Detection

Sisi Yan et al.

Summary: A cost-effective and highly controllable approach for the fabrication of ultrafine plasmonic patterns is reported. By combining the strengths of the anodic aluminum oxide template and atomic layer deposition techniques, nano-arrays with adjustable dimensions and geometry are created. These arrays exhibit strong signal enhancement, leading to the detection of various contaminants at ultra-low concentrations, such as 10 fm for rhodamine 6G, 0.25 ppm for chlorpyrifos, and 1.8 ppb for thiram.
