Rod-Shaped Polymeric Nanoparticles Intervene Neutrophils for Efficient Ischemic Stroke Therapy

Zhuolun Song et al.

Summary: In this study, rod-shaped polylactic acid polyglycolic acid nanoparticles encapsulated with piceatannol were developed to target and interfere with the interaction between neutrophils and inflamed endothelial cells in ischemic stroke. The nanoparticles with an aspect ratio of 5 exhibited enhanced internalization by neutrophils and were able to block neutrophil adherence to endothelial cells and inhibit infiltration into the blood-brain barrier. The released piceatannol within the ischemic region also inhibited neuroinflammation.

Design and synthesis of a small molecular NIR-II chemiluminescence probe for in vivo-activated H2S imaging

Zhongxiang Chen et al.

Summary: Chemiluminescence with minimal interference has been applied in biosensing and bioimaging. However, the emission of traditional chemiluminescence probes limits resolution and penetration in biological objects. This study developed a H2S-activated NIR-II chemiluminescence probe with long-duration imaging, deeper tissue penetration, and specific H2S response. The probe also showed detection capability for metformin-induced hepatotoxicity with higher signal-to-background ratios than NIR-II fluorescence mode.

A Polymeric Extracellular Matrix Nanoremodeler for Activatable Cancer Photo-Immunotherapy

Chi Zhang et al.

Summary: Cancer immunotherapy has potential in the clinic, but the extracellular matrix (ECM) in the tumor microenvironment presents a barrier. A semiconducting polymer-based ECM nanoremodeler (SPNcb) is reported to combine photodynamic antitumor activity with the inhibition of collagen-crosslinking enzymes for cancer photo-immunotherapy. SPNcb blocks collagen crosslinking and decreases ECM stiffness, improving the tumor infiltration of cytotoxic T cells and inhibiting tumor growth and metastasis.
