Flexible ion-conducting membranes with 3D continuous nanohybrid networks for high-performance solid-state metallic lithium batteries

Lehao Liu et al.

Summary: Polyethylene oxide (PEO)-based electrolytes are widely considered as promising solid-state electrolytes for next-generation lithium batteries. However, their insufficient ion conductance, mechanical strength, and electrochemical stability have hindered their applications in metallic lithium batteries. In this study, flexible and thin composite polymer electrolyte (CPE) membranes with 3D continuous aramid nanofiber (ANF)-Li1.4Al0.4Ti1.6(PO4)3 (LATP) nanoparticle hybrid frameworks were successfully prepared. The CPE membranes exhibited enhanced properties, including higher ionic conductivity, tensile strength, and thermal stability, compared to the pristine electrolyte. Moreover, the CPE-based LiFePO4/Li cells showed superior cycling stability and rate performance compared to the cells with the pristine electrolyte.
