Attosecond field emission

H. Y. Kim et al.

Summary: Field emission of electrons is essential for advancements in science and technology, allowing for higher frequency signal processing and atomic-scale imaging. The use of intense laser pulses has enabled confinement and control of optical field emission, but the measurement of attosecond electron pulses has been challenging. In this study, intense sub-cycle light transients were used to induce and investigate the dynamics of electron pulses, providing new opportunities for research in attosecond physics and nano-optics.

Improvement of field emission performances by DMSO and PEDOT:PSS treated freestanding CNT clusters

Jiayu Alexander Liu et al.

Summary: In this paper, two methods for improving the field emission performance of carbon nanotube emitters are presented and compared. The treatments with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) solution and poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene):polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) solution both reduced the threshold electric field and improved the efficiency and lifetime of the CNT emitters. However, the treatment with PEDOT:PSS solution showed more significant improvements. The study demonstrates that these simple treatment methods greatly enhance the lifetime of field emission and make them suitable for large currents and long-term use.

Direct synthesis of micropillars of vertically aligned carbon nanotubes on stainless-steel and their excellent field emission properties

Arun Thapa et al.

Summary: In this study, high-performance vertically aligned carbon nanotube pillar-based field-emitter arrays were synthesized directly on stainless-steel substrate using plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition. The nanosphere lithography technique was employed to control the growth sites and sizes of the arrays, leading to remarkable field emission properties. The excellent field emission performance can be attributed to the high conductivity of the substrate, low contact resistance, suitable number of active emitters, and reduced screening effect between the pillars.

Enhanced interfacial reaction of silicon carbide fillers onto the metal substrate in carbon nanotube paste for reliable field electron emitters

Eunsol Go et al.

Summary: This study successfully prepared reliable field electron emitters by combining carbon nanotubes with Kovar-alloy substrates, using silicon carbide nano-particle fillers with Ni particles, and enhancing interfacial reactions through the wet pulverization process of SiC aggregates. The optimized paste-emitter exhibited highly reliable field emission performance under high electric fields, demonstrating a strong Si 2p(3/2) signal in the Ni2Si phase to represent the enhanced interfacial reaction of SiC filler onto the metal substrates for vacuum electronic devices.
