NIR Photocontrolled Fluorescent Nanosensor under a Six-Branched DNA Nanowheel-Induced Nucleic Acid Confinement Effect for High-Performance Bioimaging

Jun-Xian Liu et al.

Summary: DNA nanotechnology has potential for fluorescent biosensors in bioimaging, but uncontrollable target identification and molecular collision of nucleic acids may affect imaging precision and sensitivity. To address these challenges, innovative approaches are integrated, such as incorporating a photocleavage bond and using core-shell upconversion nanoparticles as an ultraviolet light source for near-infrared photocontrolled sensing. Additionally, a DNA linker is employed to confine the collision of nucleic acid reactants, leading to enhanced local reaction concentrations and highly sensitive detection. The developed fluorescent nanosensor shows excellent assay performance and bioimaging competence in live biosystems, advancing the field of DNA nanotechnology in biosensing.

Lanthanide-Doped Upconversion Nanoparticles: Exploring A Treasure Trove of NIR-Mediated Emerging Applications

Karan Malhotra et al.

Summary: Lanthanide-doped upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) can convert multiple near-infrared photons into higher energy ultraviolet-visible photons, making them ideal for advanced applications in nanotechnology. Compared to traditional fluorophores and quantum dots, UCNPs have narrower emission bands, high chemical stability, and resistance to photobleaching and blinking. They have been extensively explored in bioanalytical and theranostic applications, but also have potential in optogenetics, super-resolution imaging, encoded barcodes, NIR vision, and other emerging fields.

Site-specific bioorthogonal protein labelling by tetrazine ligation using endogenous β-amino acid dienophiles

Daniel Richter et al.

Summary: The tetrazine ligation is a versatile and fast reaction commonly used for bioorthogonal modifications. However, the incorporation of dienophiles in biomolecules has been limited by the need for externally added reagents. This study introduces a novel strategy, called TyrEx cycloaddition, which enables autonomous dienophile generation in bacteria. This technique has been successfully applied for the labeling of proteins and holds potential for various applications.

Design and Evaluation of a Cyclobutane Diazirine Alkyne Tag for Photoaffinity Labeling in Cells

Alexander West et al.

Summary: This study explores the use of ring strain to alter the reactivity preferences of alkyl diazirines and develops a cyclobutane diazirine photoaffinity tag with reduced pH-dependent reactivity, called PALBOX. The results demonstrate that PALBOX can accurately label known protein targets in cells and reduce nonspecific labeling.

Off-Angle Amplified Spontaneous Emission of Upconversion Nanoparticles by Propagating Lattice Plasmons

Fanzhou Lv et al.

Summary: This work describes a two-dimensional plasmonic lattice of Al nanocone array (Al NCA), which can confine light at the tip. The confinement effect supports narrow linewidth resonances as optical feedback for the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) of UCNPs doped with sensitizer Yb3+ ions/emitter Ho3+ ions/relaxator Ce3+ ions. The ASE can be switched on or off by adjusting the polarization state of the incident pump light.

Plasmonic Chiral Metasurface-Induced Upconverted Circularly Polarized Luminescence from Achiral Upconversion Nanoparticles

Huilin He et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates strong upconverted circularly polarized luminescence in achiral nanomaterials through plasmonic chiral metasurface-induced optical chirality transfer. By spin-coating core-shell upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) on the chiral metasurface, enhanced upconversion luminescence and circular polarization modulation can be achieved.
