Control in Local Coordination Environment Boosting Activating Molecular Oxygen with an Atomically Dispersed Binary Mn-Co Catalyst

Meiyun Zhang et al.

Summary: This study presents a Mn-Co dual-single-atom catalyst that shows synergy in O-2 activation by utilizing two different types of activation sites. Through collaboration between Co-N-4 sites and Mn-NxOy sites, O-2 is transformed into a superoxide anion radical (O-2(center dot-)) and a new type of reactive oxygen species (ROS), enabling excellent performance in the oxidative esterification of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF).

Base-free Oxidative Esterification of HMF over AuPd/nNiO-TiO2. When Alloying Effects and Metal-support Interactions Converge in Producing Effective and Stable Catalysts

Sebastiano Campisi et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the catalytic performance of Au, Pd, and AuPd nanoparticles supported on nanosized nickel oxide (nNiO) for the production of Furan-2,5-dimethylcarboxylate (FDMC). Synergistic effects between Au and Pd were found, leading to higher yield of FDMC. The AuPd/nNiO-TiO2 catalyst exhibited remarkable catalytic activity and stability, attributed to the highly active interfacial sites formed by trimetallic AuPdNi particles.

Synergic effect between gold and vanadate substituted hydroxyapatite support for synthesis of methyl methacrylate by one-step oxidative esterification

Jie Li et al.

Summary: By modulating the phase structure of the catalyst support, a synergic effect between gold and vanadate substituted hydroxyapatite (HVP) was discovered for the synthesis of methyl methacrylate (MMA). The Au/HVP catalyst showed the best performance and unprecedented stability among all evaluated catalyst/support systems.

Enhancement effect of strong metal-support interaction (SMSI) on the catalytic activity of substituted-hydroxyapatite supported Au clusters

Akihiro Nakayama et al.

Summary: Cation-and anion-substituted hydroxyapatites (sHAPs) supported gold catalysts exhibit strong metal support interaction (SMSI) under oxidative atmosphere, enhancing the cationic properties of gold and increasing catalytic activity. Controlling the degree of SMSI allows for tuning the electronic state of metal nanoparticles and providing highly active and durable catalysts for target reactions.

Influence of the support in aqueous phase oxidation of ethanol on gold/metal oxide catalysts studied by ATR-IR spectroscopy under working conditions

Ammara Waheed et al.

Summary: The study found that the formation of bidentate ethoxy species and adsorption of ethanol are key factors for high activity and selectivity in the gold-catalyzed oxidation of ethanol to acetic acid. Co3O4 was identified as the best support material to meet these requirements, while monodentate ethoxy species on NiO deteriorated the catalytic performance.

Study of the oxidative esterification of furfural catalyzed by Au25(glutathione)18 nanocluster deposited on zirconia

Zahraa Shahin et al.

Summary: The Au/ZrO2 catalyst prepared from Au-25(SG)(18) nanoclusters showed high efficiency for the oxidative esterification of furfural with methanol. Partial calcination of the supported nanoclusters at 300 degrees Celsius led to quantitative formation of methyl-2-furoate even in the absence of a base. Under certain Au concentration, the catalyst exhibited high initial activities for the reaction at 100 degrees Celsius under 6 bar O2.

Controlling the O-Vacancy Formation and Performance of Au/ZnO Catalysts in CO2 Reduction to Methanol by the ZnO Particle Size

Shilong Chen et al.

Summary: It was found that by increasing the ZnO particle size, while keeping the same Au loading/Au particle size, the activity for methanol formation can be improved, and the selectivity also increases steadily. This is mainly due to the increasing electronic modification of Au interface perimeter sites and the formation of O-vacancy defects in the ZnO lattice.

A Multifunctional Au/CeO2-Mg(OH)2 Catalyst for One-Pot Aerobic Oxidative Esterification of Aldehydes with Alcohols to Alkyl Esters

Seulgi Lim et al.

Summary: The Au nanoparticles bound to crystalline CeO2 nanograins dispersed on nanoplate-like Mg(OH)(2), known as Au/CeO2-Mg(OH)(2), were developed as a highly active and selective multifunctional heterogeneous catalyst for direct oxidative esterification of aldehydes with alcohols under base-free aerobic conditions. The catalyst showed efficient conversion rates and high selectivity, with the ability to be reused multiple times without regeneration. The strong metal-support interaction and proximity between the catalytic components were key factors in accelerating the reaction towards a desirable oxidative esterification pathway.
