Summary: Successful memory suppression is associated with hippocampal deactivations and a concomitant disruption of this region's functionality. In this study, using psychophysiological interactions and seed connectome-based predictive modeling, it was found that during retrieval suppression, the right hippocampus exhibited decreased functional connectivity with visual cortical areas, the left nucleus accumbens, and the brain-stem, which predicted superior forgetting of unwanted memories on later memory tests.

Summary: Developing an artificial olfactory system that can mimic biological functions is challenging. The authors developed an artificial chemosensory synapse using a flexible organic electrochemical transistor gated by the potential generated from gas molecules interacting with ions in a chemoreceptive ionogel. This device can sense chemical stimuli and mimic the functions of neurotransmitter release in the olfactory system, and has potential applications in biomimetic chemosensory systems.

Summary: This study presents the development of multisensory artificial synapse and neural networks based on electrolyte-gated vertical organic field-effect transistors (VOFETs). With a scaled down channel length and a large electric double layer capacitance, the artificial synapse exhibits significantly lower power consumption compared to biological synapses. It is capable of learning and memory functions, as well as emulating human brain's information processing and sound detection. Additionally, the artificial synapse can be applied in acidity discrimination as an artificial tongue.

Summary: A neuromorphic module of an electronic nose is demonstrated using a chemoresistive gas sensor and a single transistor neuron. It simultaneously detects gases and encodes spike signals, mimicking the biological olfactory system. An analysis of the mixed signals using a spiking neural network allows the identification of odor sources. This approach eliminates the need for conversion circuits and reduces power consumption compared to traditional electronic noses.

Summary: Plasticity-led evolution plays a central role in evolutionary theory and is particularly evident in novel environments like cities. Our research highlights the abundant evidence of plastic behavioral changes in urban animals and their significant impact on urban evolution through spatial, temporal, and mate-choice mechanisms. We emphasize the need to incorporate behavioral plasticity more formally into urban evolutionary research and the opportunity provided by urban environments to study behavioral mechanisms of plasticity-led processes.

Summary: To predict the risks of extinction of natural populations, it is important to consider both phenotypic plasticity and adaptive evolution. However, there is contradicting evidence regarding the role of plasticity in facilitating adaptive responses in changing environments. This study proposes a framework that explicitly considers the rate of change, variance, and temporal autocorrelation as key components of environmental change, which can improve predictions of population viability.

Summary: The research found that each subtype of olfactory sensory neuron in mice has a unique transcriptome, which is precisely determined by interactions between its odorant receptor and the environment. This transcriptional variation is systematically organized to support sensory adaptation and accurately predict responses to odors. The findings suggest a general model where structured transcriptional variation within a cell type reflects individual experience.
