Construction of enzyme@glutathione hybrid metal-organic frameworks: glutathione-boosted microenvironment fine-tuning of biomimetic immobilization for improving catalytic performance

X. Shen et al.

Summary: Zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF) has emerged as a promising material for enzyme encapsulation due to its high surface area and easy construction. However, enzyme activity is often compromised or completely lost after encapsulation due to confinement and competing coordination effects, as well as alkaline environment caused by protonation of 2-methylimidazole. In this study, a novel strategy using glutathione (GSH) was developed to efficiently encapsulate enzyme within GSH hybrid MOF (enzyme@GMOF), creating a favorable microenvironment for enzyme activity. The resulting catalysts (CAT@GZIF-67) exhibited significantly higher catalytic activity, reusability, and storage stability compared to traditional ZIF-67 immobilized CAT (CAT@ZIF-67) and free CAT. The bio-affinity of GSH created a conducive microenvironment for enzymes and minimized the influence of other factors on their conformation and activity.

Hierarchical micro- and mesoporous ZIF-8 with core-shell superstructures using colloidal metal sulfates as soft templates for enzyme immobilization

Yuxiao Feng et al.

Summary: This study reports a new hierarchical micro-mesoporous zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) with core-shell superstructure (HZIF-8) for enzyme immobilization. The immobilized enzyme in HZIF-8 exhibited higher activity and substrate affinity compared to conventional microporous ZIF-8, showing improved stability and reusability. The obtained HZIF-8 also showed outstanding performance in co-immobilization of multienzyme for glucose detection.

Green fabrication of hierarchically-structured Pt/bio-CeO2 nanocatalysts using natural pollen templates for low-temperature CO oxidation

Bo Jiang et al.

Summary: Hierarchically structured bio-CeO2 and supported M/bio-CeO2 nanocatalysts (M = Pt, Pd, Au, and Ag) were synthesized using natural rape pollen as biotemplates. Among them, Pt/bio-CeO2 exhibited the best CO oxidation performance and maintained stable catalytic activity. In-situ DRIFTS showed that Pt-0 site was more stable and active than Pt sigma+ site. DFT calculations indicated that the CO oxidation mechanisms varied depending on the loaded metals and their geometric and electronic properties.
