Semiconducting Polymers for Oxygen Evolution Reaction under Light Illumination

Summary: This review focuses on the photocatalytic technologies and materials of polymeric photocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Two practical systems, namely particle suspension and film-based photoelectrochemical systems, are discussed. The concept is reviewed in terms of thermodynamics and kinetics, and the key characteristics of polymeric photocatalysts, such as light absorption, charge separation and transfer, and surface oxidation reactions, are examined. Satisfactory OER performance by polymeric photocatalysts could lead to cost-effective, sustainable, and renewable water splitting and other advanced applications using solar energy.

High Configuration Entropy Activated Lattice Oxygen for O2 Formation on Perovskite Electrocatalyst

Summary: Single-phase high entropy oxides with elemental complexity and compositional diversity have potential applications in clean-energy-related electrocatalysis. In this study, a high entropy cobaltate consisting of five equimolar metals was used as an electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction (OER), and it was found that the configuration entropy can promote the intrinsic activity of the cobalt reactive site and manipulate the OER mechanism. The high entropy cobaltate demonstrated superior performance compared to other counterparts.

Constructing quantum dots sensitized TiO2 nanotube p-n heterojunction for photoelectrochemical hydrogen generation

Summary: Photoelectrochemical water splitting is a promising method for converting solar radiation into clean fuel. The performance of the device depends on the light harvesting efficiency of the photoanode and the carrier dynamics at the interface. In this study, a photoanode architecture consisting of TiO2 nanotubes sensitized by CdS/CdSe quantum dots and treated with a Cu-based solution was developed, resulting in significantly improved photocurrent density and carrier dynamics. The findings provide a simple and scalable method for enhancing the performance of PEC and other optoelectronic devices.

Exciton-Mediated Energy Transfer in Heterojunction Enables Infrared Light Photocatalysis

Summary: This study proposes an exciton-mediated energy transfer strategy in heterostructures to achieve efficient infrared light response in semiconductors. By utilizing a black phosphorous/polymeric carbon nitride (BP/CN) heterojunction, improved conversion rate and selectivity in amine-amine oxidative coupling reaction under infrared light irradiation were observed. The Hole-Tunneling Heterojunction of Hematite-Based Photoanodes Accelerates Photosynthetic Reaction

High-performance self-powered photodetectors achieved through the pyro-phototronic effect in Si/SnOx/ZnO heterojunctions
