Energy savings potential of reversible photothermal windows with near infrared-selective plasmonic nanofilms

Md Anwar Jahid et al.

Summary: This study proposes a new concept of dynamic windows that utilize nanoscale solar infrared-induced plasmonic photothermal effects for reversible solar heat modulation independent of visible light conditions. Analytical models validated through experiments demonstrate the technical characteristics and thermal and optical features of these reversible photothermal windows under solar irradiation. Whole building energy simulations show that these windows have the potential to save over 18% energy in mixed climates compared to baseline models built using the most recent energy efficiency standards.

Ion Exchange Biomaterials to Capture Daptomycin and Prevent Resistance Evolution in Off-Target Bacterial Populations

Shang-Lin Yeh et al.

Summary: Daptomycin is a cyclic anionic lipopeptide antibiotic used to treat multidrug-resistant Gram-positive bacterial infections. This study reveals the interactions between cholestyramine and Daptomycin, as well as the mechanisms of antibiotic removal from the gastrointestinal tract. The findings suggest the potential of optimizing cholestyramine adjuvant therapy and designing novel biomaterials to prevent antibiotic resistance in off-target populations.

Behavior and mechanism of graphene oxide-tris(4-aminophenyl) amine composites in adsorption of rare earth elements

Xiaoru Zhao et al.

Summary: Three-dimensional graphene oxide-tris(4-aminophenyl)amine (GO-TAPAx:y) composites with different GO-to-TAPA mass ratios were prepared and characterized for their adsorption capacities of rare earth elements (REEs). The results indicate that the introduction of specific molecules enhances the adsorption ability of the composites, making them feasible for the enrichment of REE ions in real samples.

Efficient and Selective Adsorption of Neodymium on Expanded Vermiculite

Giani de Vargas Briao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the adsorption of neodymium from an aqueous solution using expanded vermiculite, focusing on kinetics, mechanism, eluent selection, and selectivity. The results showed that under optimized conditions, the efficiency of neodymium adsorption was high, with calcium chloride as the most suitable eluent. The ion exchange mechanism allowed for selective adsorption and safe desorption of neodymium.
