Yangfan Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, platinum-transition metal dimers were simulated on nitrogen-doped graphene to investigate the effects of internal and external environments on the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity, providing insights into the role of metal dopants and substrates in catalytic performance. The computational results revealed changes in the hydrogen intermediate adsorption, shift in active sites, and modulation of bond strength with H*, mainly determined by the d-band center of the transition metal atom. Among the studied dimers, PtFe-NDG showed the lowest energy barrier for the rate-determining step, highlighting its potential in H-2 desorption and water dissociation processes.
