Tunable Control of the Structural Features and Related Physical Properties of MnxFe3-xO4 Nanoparticles: Implication on Their Heating Performance by Magnetic Hyperthermia

Susel Del Sol Fernandez et al.

Summary: In this study, four different manganese ferrite nanostructures were synthesized by adjusting the synthetic parameters. The occurrence of a secondary phase of mangano-wustite within the nanoparticles and its impact on the magnetic properties were investigated. The results showed that the presence of the secondary phase led to a deterioration of the magnetic output. The heating efficiency test showed that the nanoflower sample had the highest specific absorption rate (SAR) under all tested conditions.

Selective Control over the Morphology and the Oxidation State of Iron Oxide Nanoparticles

Mariona Escoda-Torroella et al.

Summary: Iron oxide nanoparticles have been widely used for various applications, with their morphology and crystal microstructure being crucial for optimization. The study investigated the impact of 1,2-hexadecanediol and/or 1-octadecene on the thermal decomposition of iron(III) acetylacetonate, revealing different sizes and phases of nanoparticles. The role of 1,2-hexadecanediol in particle nucleation and growth was elucidated, and the magnetic response was correlated with the structural features of the nanoparticles in two series of samples.

Nanoparticles for Magnetic Heating: When Two (or More) Is Better Than One

Jesus G. Ovejero et al.

Summary: The increasing use of magnetic nanoparticles as heating agents in biomedicine is driven by their proven utility in hyperthermia therapeutic treatments and heat-triggered drug delivery methods. The demand of efficient nanoheaters has prompted the creation of novel types of magnetic nanoparticle systems exploiting the magnetic interaction between constituent magnetic elements. Complex magnetic architectures have been realized, classified into core/shell nanoparticles, multicore nanoparticles, linear aggregates, hybrid systems, and mixed nanoparticle systems, showing significant contribution to research in the field of magnetic heating.

Engineering Iron Oxide Nanocatalysts by a Microwave-Assisted Polyol Method for the Magnetically Induced Degradation of Organic Pollutants

Alvaro Gallo-Cordova et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the synthesis of iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles and their use as self-heating catalysts for dye degradation in wastewater treatment. The application of an alternating magnetic field (AMF) led to a 10% increase in decolorization yields, reaching full decolorization at 90 degrees C. Multicore nanoparticles showed higher degradation rates and 100% efficiencies in four reusability cycles under AMF, indicating a step forward in sustainable remediation techniques.
