Coordination Li diffusion chemistry in NASICON Li1.5Al0.5Ge1.5(PO4)3 solid electrolyte

Yang Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed to understand the Li-ion migration behaviors in Al-doped LiGe2(PO4)(3) (LAGP). The results reveal that the doped Al-ions induce the formation of metastable interstitial sites, leading to an interlaced interstitial and multi-ionic concerted hopping mechanisms for Li-ion migration. Furthermore, the strong Coulombic repulsion of Li-ions in the LAGP lattice accelerates the migration of sluggish lattice Li-ions. The energy barrier for Li-ion migration is further reduced in LAGP with Li/Al antisite, although excessive antisite formation can deteriorate the conducting performance.

Dual doping with cations and anions for enhancing the structural stability of the sodium-ion layered cathode

Kyoungmin Min

Summary: First-principles-based calculations were used to explore the ideal combination of cations and anions as dual dopants for enhancing the structural stability of sodium-ion layered cathode in sodium ion batteries (SIBs). The calculations identified five most effective dual dopants for enhancing the structural stability. This study provides an essential design map for developing an ideal dual doping strategy for SIBs.

Synthesizable Double Perovskite Oxide Search via Machine Learning and High-Throughput Computational Screening

Joonchul Kim et al.

Summary: Machine learning algorithms are used to predict the synthesizability of ABB'O-3 double perovskite materials, with high-throughput computational screening for validation. Regression and classification models accurately predict the formation energy and convex hull energy of general inorganic materials, guiding the estimation of synthesizability of 11,763 ABB'O3 structures. The accuracy of these models is further validated by first-principles calculations, demonstrating their potential for discovering synthesizable double perovskite oxide structures.

Temperature and processing effects on lithium ion conductivity of solution-deposited lithium zirconium phosphate (LiZr2P3O12) thin films

Ian A. Brummel et al.

Summary: Lithium zirconium phosphate (LiZr2P3O12) thin films were prepared using a chemical solution deposition approach at temperatures between 700°C and 775°C, with post-annealing significantly affecting the crystallinity, grain size, and ion conductivity properties of the films. Single high-temperature annealing improved ion conductivity, while per-layer annealing showed a more complex effect with an initial increase followed by a decrease in ion conductivity. These results suggest that different post-deposition processing methods can greatly influence the ion conducting properties of LiZr2P3O12 thin films.

Synthetic accessibility and stability rules of NASICONs

Bin Ouyang et al.

Summary: This paper presents stability rules for NASICON-structured materials, developed through high-throughput computations and validated through synthesis. A machine-learned tolerance factor based on specific descriptors offers reasonable accuracy in predicting the stability of NASICON phases. This work not only provides tools for understanding the synthetic accessibility of NASICON-type materials, but also demonstrates an efficient paradigm for discovering new materials with complicated composition and atomic structure.
