Pre-Buried ETL with Bottom-Up Strategy Toward Flexible Perovskite Solar Cells with Efficiency Over 23%

Yuanyuan Meng et al.

Summary: With the rapid development of photovoltaic technology, flexible perovskite solar cells (f-PSCs) have gained attention for their lightweight, flexibility, and portability. However, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) achieved so far is not as high as rigid devices due to the challenge of depositing high-quality perovskite films on flexible substrates. In this study, the addition of 3-aminopropionic acid hydroiodide (3AAH) into the electron transport layer (ETL) and modification of the ETL/perovskite (PVK) interface improved the quality of the ETL and reduced the defect density of f-PSCs. This strategy resulted in a remarkable PCE of 23.36% and provides a new idea to bridge the gap between flexible and rigid devices.

Buried Guanidinium Passivator with Favorable Binding Energy for Perovskite Solar Cells

Bo Zhang et al.

Summary: Rational design and modification of the buried interface towards high performance perovskite solar cells (PSCs) were achieved by using guanidinium passivators with multiamine substitutions. The binding geometry of the highly polarized imine moiety in the passivators was found to dominate the passivation effect on the SnO2 surface, resulting in reduced trap density and nonradiative recombination. The PSCs with buried passivators exhibited a champion power conversion efficiency of 24.4%, an advanced open-circuit voltage of 1.197 V, and a prolonged lifetime over 90% of the initial efficiency after 900 hours in ambient conditions.

Summary: This study reports the use of PCN-224 quantum dots (QDs), a typical Zr-based porphyrinic metal-organic framework (MOF), to enhance the ambient stability of organic-inorganic lead halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs). PCN-224 QDs contribute to high-quality perovskite films and facilitate hole extraction and transport at the perovskite/hole transport layer (HTL) interface. Additionally, PCN-224 QDs mitigate Li+ ion migration and reduce the formation of deleterious defects in the perovskite layer. The resulting devices exhibit improved durability and achieve a high power-conversion efficiency (PCE) of 22.51%.

Effective Passivation of Perovskite Solar Cells Involving a Unique Secondary Ammonium Halide Modulator

Hong Cui et al.

Summary: Aromatic ammonium salts have been considered as promising passivators in perovskite solar cell (PSC) fabrications, but the complicated passivation procedure and formation of undesirable low-dimensional (LD) perovskite layers hinder further development. In this study, two carefully engineered passivators based on the unique benzothiophene moiety are developed. It is shown that defects and nonradiative recombination reactions can be effectively suppressed without the formation of LD perovskite by simple posttreatments. The champion efficiency of the BTMA-2-treated device increases to 23.10% from approximately 20% with improved stabilities and negligible hysteresis.
