Corrosion inhibition effect of nano-SiO2 for galvanized steel superhydrophobic surface

Tingting Liang et al.

Summary: By preparing superhydrophobic surfaces containing nano-SiO2 through a simple one-step immersion process on galvanized steel, the corrosion resistance and hydrophobicity of the steel can be significantly improved. The addition of SiO2 promotes the formation of surface rough structure, resulting in excellent superhydrophobic properties and corrosion resistance in the prepared surfaces.

The function of Cr on the rust formed on weathering steel performed in a simulated tropical marine atmosphere environment

Tianyi Zhang et al.

Summary: The study showed that the corrosion rates of weathering steels (WSs) decreased as the Cr contents in WSs increased, and the enriched area of Cr in the inner rust layer effectively blocked the invasion of Cl-. High content of Cr in steel promoted the generation of Cr(OH)(3) and Cr2O3, acting as nucleation sites for the formation of Fe3O4 and alpha-FeOOH.
