The study compared the effectiveness of centralized informatics-based dashboard and academic detailing approaches for the audit and feedback component. Impact of workflow interruptions on baseline activities of the doctors working in the emergency department

Summary: This study investigated the baseline activities of emergency department doctors and how interruptions affect their workflow. The findings revealed that direct communication with patients and documentation were the most frequent activities, while visual and auditory distractions as well as coworker intrusions were the most common interruptions. Interruptions increase the likelihood of errors and make it challenging for doctors to resume their primary tasks.

By applying implementation science principles, a research team collaborated with stakeholders to develop implementation strategies, identifying low awareness of guidelines among clinicians, communication challenges with patients, and lack of transparency in care plans and diagnostic testing as major barriers to guideline implementation.
