Combination of Total-Reflection X-Ray Fluorescence Method and Chemometric Techniques for Provenance Study of Archaeological Ceramics

Artem S. Maltsev et al.

Summary: The provenance study of archaeological materials is crucial for understanding ancient human communities. This paper uses the TXRF method and chemometric techniques to study Neolithic ceramic samples from eastern Siberia. The study shows that PCA has limited effectiveness in provenance studies, but SVM and k-means cluster analysis can accurately classify samples by site and type. These techniques also revealed similarities among samples from nearby sites.

Multielement analysis of continental and lacustrine ferromanganese nodules by WDXRF, TXRF, and ICP-MS methods. Intercomparison study and accuracy assessment

Victor M. Chubarov et al.

Summary: The specific elemental and mineral composition of lacustrine and continental nodules differ substantially from other types of sedimentary rock, oceanic nodules, and crusts. This study examined the applicability of analytical methods for accurate data on the elemental composition of these nodules, as well as performed a comparison test using various analytical methods. Samples were prepared and analyzed using different techniques, such as X-ray fluorescence and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry.
