Empirically Derived Age-Based Vital Signs for Children in the Out-of-Hospital Setting

Sriram Ramgopal et al.

Summary: This study compares Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) vital signs criteria to empirically derived vital signs cut-points to predict out-of-hospital interventions in children. The results show that the proportion of encounters with abnormal vital signs is higher when using empirically derived criteria compared to PALS criteria, and age-based empirically derived cut-points are more strongly associated with out-of-hospital medical interventions.
