Aetiology of resuscitated out-of-hospital cardiac arrest treated at hospital

M. R. Wittwer et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the aetiology and outcomes in resuscitated out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients within a local health network from 2011 to 2016. Non-cardiac aetiologies were found to be a significant proportion of cases and were often associated with poor outcomes.

Gender differences and survival after out of hospital cardiac arrest

Daniel Rob et al.

Summary: The effect of gender on survival and neurological outcome varies in patients with out of hospital cardiac arrest. Women admitted for OHCA had lower survival rate and good neurological outcome compared to men. However, after adjusting for baseline characteristics, gender was not associated with survival or neurological outcome.

Sex Differences in Incidence and Outcome of Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest Within a Local Health Network

Melanie R. Wittwer et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of sex on the incidence and outcome of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) according to presumed and adjudicated causes. The results showed that sex differences in OHCA incidence and outcome were mainly driven by differences in susceptibility to cardiac arrhythmias and underlying causes.

Association between sex and survival after non-traumatic out of hospital cardiac arrest: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Abdullah Malik et al.

Summary: Existing studies have conflicting results on the relationship between sex and survival after out of hospital cardiac arrest. This systematic review evaluates the association of female sex with survival in non-traumatic OHCA patients and finds that female sex has a small impact on survival to discharge but no impact on survival at 30 days. Future research should focus on sex-specific factors rather than treating sex as an isolated prognostic factor.

Effect of gender on out-of-hospital cardiac arrest survival: a registry-based study

Herve Hubert et al.

Summary: The study compared outcomes after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest between female and male cohorts and found that female patients had a slightly higher survival rate at 30 days, with no significant difference in neurological outcomes compared to male patients. It was observed that female patients received delayed care and shorter resuscitation efforts, warranting further investigation into these complex issues. Encouraging bystanders to act quickly and ensuring equal care for female patients as for male patients could improve survival rates.
