Quantification of oxidative stress in Saccharomyces pastorianus propagation: Gene expression analysis using quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and flow cytometry

Alexander Beugholt et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the oxidative stress response of Saccharomyces pastorianus during yeast propagation under different aeration levels using RT-qPCR and flow cytometry. The results showed that high oxygen fermentation conditions led to increased expression of the catalase-A gene CTA1 during propagation, along with an increasing concentration of reactive oxygen species (ROS) inside the cells.

Influence of Interfacial Force Models and Population Balance Models on the kLa Value in Stirred Bioreactors

Stefan Seidel et al.

Summary: Optimal oxygen supply is crucial for the cultivation of aerobically growing cells, with the volumetric oxygen mass transfer coefficient k(L)a playing a direct role in cell growth and product formation. This study evaluated the influences of different interfacial force and population balance models on k(L)a, with results showing better agreement with experimental data when coupling computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with population balance models (PBM).
