Identifying and Predicting the Goals and Concerns Prioritised by Individuals with Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Chung Sang Tse et al.

Summary: Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) prioritize goals related to symptoms/disease activity and clinical course/management. They are less concerned about psychosocial/quality of life and medication. Patients' demographics, IBD characteristics, and health care utilisation patterns can predict specific types of concerns/goals.

Patient-reported Outcomes: the ICHOM Standard Set for Inflammatory Bowel Disease in Real-life Practice Helps Quantify Deficits in Current Care

Darren Wong et al.

Summary: This study reports on the symptoms, quality of life, and ICHOM IBD outcomes of patients with inflammatory bowel disease. The results illustrate the therapeutic deficit in current care, and demonstrate that patient-reported outcome data can be collected continuously with little burden on healthcare professionals.

The Relationship Between Symptoms of Depression and Anxiety and Disease Activity in IBD Over Time

Ruth Ann Marrie et al.

Summary: The study reveals that symptoms of depression and anxiety are associated with disease activity in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) over time, with elevated symptoms of depression increasing the odds of active IBD and biologic therapy use.

Summary: The study aimed to review literature on patient-reported outcome measures in colorectal cancer and IBD, and to develop a core outcome set through opinion gathering on social media. A wide range of participants discussed and analyzed different PROM sets, leading to the proposal of a general psycho-physical well-being score (GPP) as a simple and applicable PROM to cover the most important aspects in PROMs.

Patient-Reported Outcomes in Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Measurement of Effect in Research and Clinical Care

Jane Fletcher et al.

Summary: Evaluating healthcare or research interventions in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) relies on the measurement of outcomes. Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) play a central role in this evaluation in patient-centred care. This review provides an overview of validated, adult disease-specific PROMs developed for use in IBD, aiming to assist clinicians and researchers in selecting PROMs for outcome measurement in their patient cohort. Despite the identification of 21 PROMs and their shortened versions, it appears that there is no single PROM that is entirely suitable for both research and clinical practice.
