Settling with forests in Thua Thien Hue (Vietnam)

Quang Minh Nguyen et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the co-presence of vernacular and political landscapes and their interaction in the development of forests. The study reveals that the co-presence of these landscapes has become increasingly profound over time, with a trend of decentralization in the territory. The findings provide a basis for future research on alternative environmental design and settlement models linked with forests to adapt to climate change.

New and Emerging Insect Pest and Disease Threats to Forest Plantations in Vietnam

Pham Quang Thu et al.

Summary: The planted forest area in Vietnam increased from 3.0 to 4.4 million hectares between 2010 and 2020, but the loss of productivity from pests and diseases remains a problem. The study found that folivores, wood borers, sap-sucking insects, and pathogens were the major threats, with the number of new pests and pathogens increasing over time. To effectively manage these issues, investments in resistant genotypes, nursery hygiene, and integrated pest management are necessary, along with the development of forest health monitoring protocols.
