Demoralization in suicide: A systematic review

Alessandra Costanza et al.

Summary: This review summarizes 18 original studies on the association between suicidal ideation/suicidal behavior and demoralization in different populations. The results suggest that demoralization is an independent risk factor for suicide and can lead to significantly higher suicide risk. Demoralization alone or together with depression has been identified as a major risk factor for suicidal ideation/suicidal behavior. Further research is needed to confirm these findings.

'The last thing you feel is the self-disgust'. The role of self-directed disgust in men who have attempted suicide: A grounded theory study

David Mason et al.

Summary: This research explores the connection between self-disgust and male suicide. The study reveals that self-disgust, worthlessness, and emotional distress are core factors that contribute to male suicide. Self-disgust plays an important role in male suicidality, and childhood adversities have a greater impact on self-disgust.

The spontaneous brain activity of disgust: Perspective from resting state fMRI and resting state EEG

Zhaoxian Li et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown a growing association between disgust and various psychopathologies. By analyzing the spontaneous brain activity patterns associated with disgust sensitivity, researchers aim to gain insight into the neurological nature of disgust and its vulnerability to psychopathologies. The findings suggest that specific brain regions and network patterns are closely linked to levels of disgust sensitivity, providing valuable evidence for understanding the neurological basis of disgust sensitivity and its connection to psychopathology.

The Association Between Resting State Functional Connectivity and the Trait of Impulsivity and Suicidal Ideation in Young Depressed Patients With Suicide Attempts

Jun Cao et al.

Summary: Our study found significantly different resting-state functional connectivity patterns in depressed youth with suicide attempts, non-suicide attempters, and healthy controls. Connectivity between the prefrontal-parietal regions was linked to suicidal ideation and impulsivity, while connectivity between the prefrontal cortex and rACC was only associated with impulsivity levels, not suicidal ideation.
