Assessment of hygiene practices and microbial safety of milk supplied by smallholder farmers to processors in selected counties in Kenya

Summary: Smallholder farmers in Kenya dominate the dairy sector, but there are concerns about the quality and safety of the milk they produce. This study assessed the hygiene and microbial safety of milk supplied by smallholder farmers to processors in three counties in Kenya. The study found that farmers did not adhere to good hygienic practices, resulting in poor microbial quality of the milk.
