Understanding medical mistrust and HPV vaccine hesitancy among multiethnic parents in Los Angeles

Jennifer Tsui et al.

Summary: This study investigated parental HPV vaccine hesitancy among parents of adolescents from low-income, first-generation, underrepresented minority families in Los Angeles. The results showed that one-fifth of parents reported high HPV vaccine hesitancy and over 50% of parents expressed concerns about safety or side effects. High medical mistrust was associated with high parental HPV vaccine hesitancy.

Understanding the Factors Influencing Health Care Provider Recommendations about Adolescent Vaccines: A Proposed Framework

Mallory K. Ellingson et al.

Summary: Health care provider recommendations play a crucial role in parents' decisions to vaccinate their adolescents. However, the delivery of high-quality recommendations for vaccination varies widely. Factors influencing providers' recommendations include attitudes and beliefs, patient characteristics, community context, and vaccine policies. A multi-level framework is proposed to understand and improve providers' recommendations.

Predictor of HPV Vaccination Uptake among Foreign-Born College Students in the U.S.: An Exploration of the Role of Acculturation and the Health Belief Model

Fahad T. Alsulami et al.

Summary: The study aimed to measure the HPV vaccination rate and knowledge among foreign-born college students. The results showed that they had moderate knowledge about HPV and the vaccine, with approximately 63% being vaccinated. Perceived susceptibility, perceived barriers, and cues to action were significantly associated with the HPV vaccination behavior, while knowledge and acculturation levels were not significantly associated.

Disparities in HPV vaccine knowledge and adolescent HPV vaccine uptake by parental nativity among diverse multiethnic parents in New Jersey

Bianca Anuforo et al.

Summary: The study found that parental HPV vaccine knowledge remains low among multiethnic parents in New Jersey, especially among non-U.S. born parents. Adolescent children of non-U.S. born parents also had lower odds of initiating the HPV vaccine. Multilevel strategies are needed to reduce missed opportunities for HPV vaccine education among parents and vaccination for adolescents in suburban, immigrant communities.

Lan Li et al.

Summary: Behavior change theories and social media tools play a crucial role in addressing vaccine hesitancy and increasing vaccination uptake. The Health Belief Model is the most frequently utilized theory, and educational posts are the most common social media tool. Tailoring interventions based on the specific circumstances and needs of the target audience is essential for achieving positive behavior change.

Vaccine Hesitancy in the Time of COVID-19: Attitudes and Intentions of Teens and Parents Regarding the COVID-19 Vaccine

Amy B. Middleman et al.

Summary: By surveying adolescents and their parents, we found that parental concerns about vaccine safety increased significantly before and after the availability of the COVID-19 vaccine. Social media negatively influenced opinions about vaccine safety. Demographic variables were associated with vaccination rates, highlighting inequalities in vaccine access. Most parents supported simultaneous COVID-19 vaccination with other vaccines. Addressing vaccine hesitancy is crucial for increasing COVID-19 vaccine coverage rates.

Acceptability of HPV Vaccination in Young Students by Exploring Health Belief Model and Health Literacy

Alessandra Fallucca et al.

Summary: The HPV vaccine has been offered for free to girls in Italy for over 15 years, but the vaccination coverage remains low. A study conducted in Sicily revealed that factors associated with HPV vaccination adherence include female sex, high health belief model score, good health literacy level, parents' influence, general practitioner recommendation, and educational materials provided by public vaccination services. To achieve the desired 95% vaccination coverage, further health-promotion programs focused on improving health literacy and perception of the HPV vaccine's benefits should be implemented.

Association of caregiver attitudes with adolescent HPV vaccination in 13 southern US states

Lavanya Vasudevan et al.

Summary: This study examined the attitudes of caregivers towards adolescent HPV vaccination in the southern US and provided targeted interventions to promote vaccination. The results showed that caregiver attitudes towards adolescent vaccines were strongly associated with HPV vaccination. The top concerns among caregivers were vaccine ingredients, perception of too many vaccines for adolescents, and worry about vaccine side effects. Positive attitudes towards the HPV vaccine and HPV vaccination decision-making were significantly related to HPV vaccination. Caregivers' discomfort with discussing the topic of sex predicted lower vaccination uptake for older adolescents.

Integrating health behavior theories to predict American's intention to receive a COVID-19 vaccine

Haoran Chu et al.

Summary: This study explores sociopsychological factors influencing Americans' intention to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, integrating constructs from three prominent health behavior theories. Most respondents intended to get vaccinated but tended to underestimate their risks of contracting COVID-19. Disease exposure led to higher uptake intent via the mediation of fear, while safety concerns and perceived community benefits played a role in vaccination intention.
