Silver diamine fluoride therapy for dental care

Faith Miaomiao Zheng et al.

Summary: Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is an effective and safe treatment for early childhood caries, root caries, fissure caries, dentin hypersensitivity, hypomineralized teeth, dental erosion, and infected root canals. It has antimicrobial and remineralization-promoting properties, and is simple, painless, and cost-effective, making it widely accepted.

Penetration of Silver Diamine Fluoride in Deep Carious Lesions of Human Permanent Teeth: An In Vitro Study

Jutharat Manuschai et al.

Summary: The study found that applying SDF on deep carious lesions did not affect silver penetration when necrotic dentin was left pulpal or removed superficially. However, the extent of silver penetration into the remaining dentin depended on the quantity and characteristics of that dentin.

Global Oral Health Policies and Guidelines: Using Silver Diamine Fluoride for Caries Control

Sherry Shiqian Gao et al.

Summary: Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a widely used method for managing dental caries globally, with various manufacturers producing SDF at different concentrations. Despite its effectiveness, SDF is not allowed for use in mainland China, and guidelines for its clinical use have been developed by different government organizations and dental associations in other countries. Undergraduate and postgraduate dental curriculums in almost all countries include training for using SDF, but research on the actual utilization of SDF by dentists, especially in the private sector, is limited.

Caries arrest effectiveness of silver diamine fluoride compared to alternative restorative technique: randomized clinical trial

H. M. Abdellatif et al.

Summary: This study compared the effectiveness of biannual application of 38% silver diamine fluoride (SDF) and alternative restorative technique (ART) in arresting caries in primary dentition. Results showed no significant difference in caries arrest between SDF and ART, but the chair-time management required for SDF was significantly shorter than ART.

Summary: This study demonstrated both AgF and SDF can effectively arrest carious lesions on primary teeth. Different groups showed variations in caries control effectiveness, and the use of KI was associated with improved aesthetic outcomes but poorer caries control.
