Fracture load of 4-unit interim fixed partial dentures using 3D-printed and traditionally manufactured materials

Andreas Greuling et al.

Summary: The fracture strength of 3-dimensional printed interim materials and conventional materials were compared in this in vitro study. 4-unit interim fixed partial dentures made from 3 different materials were tested for fracture load before and after mastication simulation. Results showed that the 3D-printed interim restoration material and manufacturing process exhibited significantly lower fracture loads compared to the alternatives, but the influence of geometric differences on the results remained unclear.

The effect of surface treatments on the adhesive bond in all-ceramic dental crowns using four-point bending and dynamic loading tests

Christin Worpenberg et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of different surface treatments on the bond strength between framework ceramic and veneering ceramic. Sandblasting and grinding were carried out on samples, with and without plasma treatment. The results showed that the highest bond strength was achieved in the group with sandblasting at 90 degrees, 6 bar, and a working distance of 1.5 cm without plasma treatment, while the lowest bond strength was observed in the group with sandblasting at 90 degrees, 2 bar, and a working distance of 1 cm with plasma treatment. Overall, plasma treatment did not improve bond strength.

The effect of endodontic access preparation on the failure load resistance of a 3Y-TZP monolithic zirconia crown

Jonathan Schubert et al.

Summary: Endodontic access preparation did not significantly affect the failure load resistance of 3Y-TZP zirconia crowns, with repaired crowns showing similar failure loads to unprepared controls. However, caution is advised regarding the interpretation of these findings until confirmed by clinical studies.

Fracture toughness of 3Y-TZP ceramic measured by the Chevron-Notch Beam method: A roundrobin study

Sabine Begand et al.

Summary: This interlaboratory round robin test investigated the robustness of the ChevronNotch Beam (CNB) test method and the effect of the processing and testing variations on the fracture toughness of a dental 3Y-TZP ceramic. The results revealed that the CNB method is suitable for determination of KIc on fine-grained ceramics such as 3Y-TZP ceramic, and by using tighter tolerances for processing and testing, a highly-precise evaluation of fracture toughness with low data variation is achievable.

Bonding of Resin Cements to Ultra-Translucent Zirconia After Aging for 24 Hours and 1 Year

Isadora Martini Garcia et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of different luting techniques on the shear bond strength of ultra-translucent multi-layered zirconia and analyzed the influence of primers on the surface wettability. The results showed that using specific resin cements and primers can improve the bond strength and wettability, thus contributing to a stable long-term restoration.

Biaxial flexural strength of zirconia: A round robin test with 12 laboratories

Sebastian Spintzyk et al.

Summary: The interlaboratory round robin test aimed to verify the robustness of DIN EN ISO 6872:2019 and identify the influence of processing and testing variations. Results showed significant differences in flexural strength based on different preparation methods, with a certain degree of correlation between strength increase and surface roughness.
