Radiographic evaluation of the mandible to predict age and sex in subadults

Ayca T. Ulusoy et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the accuracy of various mandibular measurements on digital panoramic images in indicating sex and age in a subadult population. However, the study found that mandibular measurements are not sufficient to accurately determine sex and age.

Quantifying the potential of morphological parameters for human dental identification: part 3-selecting the strongest skeletal identifiers in the mandible

Anca R. Iliescu et al.

Summary: The study aimed to select the best mandibular morphological identifiers by measuring various ratios and angles. After analyzing 185 panoramic radiographs, it was found that specific ratios and angles can be used to narrow down the potential matches. Combining all ratios drastically improves the certainty of the match, making it the strongest identifier.

Sexual dimorphism and population variation in mandibular variables: a study on a contemporary Indian population

Vineeta Saini et al.

Summary: This study investigated the reliability of mandibular dimorphism for sex estimation and found that the mandible is highly sexually dimorphic, with the gonion-gnathion length being the most dimorphic parameter. Factors that affect sexing accuracy and the selection of the best variables are also discussed.
