Prevalence of Health-Risk Behaviors and Mental Well-Being of ASEAN University Students in COVID-19 Pandemic

Hanif Abdul Rahman et al.

Summary: This study examined the prevalence of epidemiological health-risk behaviors and mental well-being among Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) university students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results showed that a large proportion of university students consumed sugar-sweetened beverages and snacks/fast food daily, while less than half of them consumed the recommended daily amounts of fruit/vegetables. The prevalence of physical inactivity and low mental well-being was also significant. Country and body mass index were found to have a significant correlation with these health-risk behaviors and mental well-being.

Mapping functions: A physics-guided, data-driven and algorithm-agnostic machine learning approach to discover causal and descriptive expressions of engineering phenomena

M. Z. Naser

Summary: This paper introduces a novel approach that combines machine learning and physics principles to derive descriptive expressions for engineering phenomena through mapping functions. By leveraging ML models and physics insights, this approach overcomes limitations of traditional methods and offers a cognitive, instantaneous, and cost-effective alternative.

Identifying Predictors of University Students' Wellbeing during the COVID-19 Pandemic-A Data-Driven Approach

Chang Liu et al.

Summary: The study identified predictors of university students' psychological wellbeing during the COVID-19 pandemic. Factors like White/European ethnicity, restriction stress, perceived worry on mental health, dietary changes, sufficiency of distancing communication, and social isolation negatively impacted students' wellbeing. On the other hand, physical health status, emotional support, and resilience had positive associations. Notably, age, gender, international status, and educational level did not play significant roles in predicting wellbeing. To support student wellbeing effectively, universities should invest in interventions targeting social isolation among students.
