Myopia: Histology, clinical features, and potential implications for the etiology of axial elongation

Jost B. Jonas et al.

Summary: Myopic axial elongation is associated with various non-pathological changes including a decrease in photoreceptor and RPE cell density, thinning of the choroid and sclera, shift in BMO, ovalization of the optic disc, elongation of the fovea-optic disc distance, reduction in angle kappa, and changes in retinal blood vessels and nerve fibers.

LASER PROPHYLAXIS IN STICKLER SYNDROME The Manchester Protocol

Emma Linton et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to determine the safety and effectiveness of 360 degrees laser prophylaxis in preventing giant retinal tears (GRTs) and detachments in patients with Stickler syndrome. The results showed that patients who underwent laser prophylaxis had a lower rate of retinal detachments and no occurrence of GRTs. Therefore, 360 degrees laser prophylaxis is a safe and effective approach for individuals with Stickler syndrome.

Fellow-Eye Retinal Detachment Risk as Stratified by Hyaloid Status on OCT

Josh O. Wallsh et al.

Summary: The risk of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) in the fellow eye can be evaluated by using OCT to determine the posterior hyaloid status at the time of initial RRD. In this study, 153 patients (14.6%) were diagnosed with bilateral sequential RRD. OCT imaging revealed that 7.9% of eyes with an attached hyaloid developed RRD during follow-up, and 23.7% of eyes in which a posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) developed during follow-up also developed RRD.

Retinal Shape-Based Classification of Retinal Detachment and Posterior Vitreous Detachment Eyes

Stewart R. Lake et al.

Summary: This study used irregularities in retinal shape from optical coherence tomography (OCT) images as a biomarker for retinal detachment and developed a classifier to identify retinal detachment eyes. The results showed that the classifier had a moderate accuracy in identifying retinal detachment eyes.

In Vivo Imaging of Retinal and Choroidal Morphology and Vascular Plexuses of Vertebrates Using Swept-Source Optical Coherence Tomography

Ratheesh K. Meleppat et al.

Summary: In vivo evaluation of the structural morphology and vascular plexuses of the neurosensory retina and choroid across vertebrate species was performed using SS-OCT and SS-OCTA imaging. The results showed that the retinal morphology and vascular plexuses varied among different species. These methods can be used to evaluate retinal diseases in various species.

New Classification for the Reporting of Complications in Retinal Detachment Surgical Trials

Zheng Yang Xu et al.

Summary: The study developed a new consensus-based classification system to quantify the severity of complications in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment surgery. Through a Delphi consensus survey, consensus was reached for 96% of the 84 complications assessed globally. This classification system will help surgeons effectively evaluate the harms of different surgical techniques.
