Injectable Thermoresponsive Hydrogels for Cancer Therapy: Challenges and Prospects

Sandrine Tanga et al.

Summary: The use of thermoresponsive hydrogels in cancer therapy can improve drug accumulation and release, but there are challenges in designing these hydrogels, such as poor drug loading and difficulties in controlling gelation kinetics. Only a few thermoresponsive hydrogel-based drugs have received FDA approval for cancer treatment, despite some reaching clinical trials.

The role of plant-derived natural antioxidants in reduction of oxidative stress

Behnaz Akbari et al.

Summary: Free radicals are harmful molecules produced during cell metabolism and their levels can be increased by exposure to UV radiation and environmental pollutants. They can cause damage to membranes, enzymes, and DNA, leading to various diseases. Increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables with high antioxidant values can help reduce oxidative stress, and natural products have multiple biological impacts.

pH-Responsive porphyrin-silica nanoparticles conjugate via ionic self-assembly

Maher Fathalla et al.

Summary: Ionic self-assembly (ISA) is used to create functional nanomaterials through electrostatic interactions. This study introduces a pH responsive hybrid material formed by benzoic acid functionalized silica nanoparticles (MSNs-Bn) and meso-tetrakis(N-methylpyridinium-4-yl)porphyrin (TMPyP). The hybrid material shows potential as a drug delivery system that is responsive to changing pH values and can deliver both chemotherapeutic drugs and PDT agents.
