Hyper-reflective vitreous spots in central retinal artery occlusion: An unusual finding in two cases

Stela Vujosevic et al.

Summary: This article presents two cases of Central Retinal Artery Occlusion (CRAO) with unusual Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) presentation of Hyperreflective Spots (HRS) in the posterior vitreous. The number of HRS seems to decrease over time, suggesting a role for inflammatory response in the acute stage of CRAO. This combination of CRAO and HRS has not been previously reported.

Inner Retinal Layer Hyperreflectivity Is an Early Biomarker for Acute Central Retinal Artery Occlusion

Daniel A. Wenzel et al.

Summary: This study investigated the correlation between inner retinal hyperreflectivity and acute central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) using optical coherence tomography (OCT). The results showed a strong correlation between inner retinal hyperreflectivity and CRAO, suggesting that it could serve as a potential biomarker for prompt diagnosis of CRAO.

Changes in macrophage-like cells characterized by en face optical coherence tomography after retinal stroke

Yunkao Zeng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the in vivo changes of macrophage-like cells (MLCs), such as microglia, after acute ischemic retinal stroke using en face optical coherence tomography (OCT). The findings suggest that the increased density and morphological changes of MLCs may indicate the aggregation and activation of MLCs following acute reperfused central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO).

The Retrobulbar Spot Sign and Prominent Middle Limiting Membrane as Prognostic Markers in Non-Arteritic Retinal Artery Occlusion

Marlena Schnieder et al.

Summary: Central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) results in sudden vision loss, with retrobulbar spot sign and prominent middle limiting membrane (p-MLM) sign being key indicators. The presence of p-MLM sign in SD-OCT is associated with better vision outcomes, while the retrobulbar spot sign may indicate a higher risk of secondary retinal ischemia.

Internal limiting membrane detachment in acute central retinal artery occlusion: a novel prognostic sign seen on OCT

Ramesh Venkatesh et al.

Summary: In cases of acute central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO), the presence of ILMD is associated with poor visual acuity and severe signs of retinal hypoperfusion on OCT. Patients with ILMD have a poor final visual acuity and thinning, atrophy or necrosis of the inner retinal layers. The presence of ILMD on OCT can be considered a sign of poor prognosis in acute CRAO cases.
