The synergistic effect of CuBi2O4 and Co-Pi: improving the PEC activity of BiVO4-based composite materials

Rui Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a BiVO4/CuBi2O4/Co-Pi photoanode was prepared to enhance the photoelectrochemical water splitting performances. It was found that the heterojunction structure of CuBi2O4 and BiVO4 widened the absorption range of light and accelerated the separation of photogenerated carriers. The presence of Co-Pi constituent as a water oxidation catalyst further improved the interface charge transfer and increased the active surface area. The results showed that the ternary semiconductor structure can greatly enhance photoelectrochemical performance, making it a promising strategy for the development of photoelectrochemical water splitting.

Effect of Ag-Decorated BiVO4 on Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting: An X-ray Absorption Spectroscopic Investigation

Ta Thi Thuy Nga et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that modulating the composition of the electrode and the electronic configuration of BiVO4 by decoration with silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) is effective in enhancing the charge carrier concentration and suppressing charge recombination during solar water splitting process. The photocurrent density of BiVO4 is significantly enhanced by decoration with a small number of Ag NPs, reaching 4.1 mA cm(-2) at 1.23 V versus a reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) under solar simulated light illumination.

Efficient wide-spectrum photocatalytic overall water splitting over ultrathin molecular nickel phthalocyanine/BiVO4 Z-scheme heterojunctions without noble metals

Jiannan Feng et al.

Summary: This study developed molecular nickel phthalocyanines on phosphate-functionalized bismuth vanadate nanosheets as ultrathin heterojunctions for photocatalytic overall water splitting without noble-metal cocatalysts or sacrificial agents. The Z-scheme charge separation between NiPc and PO-BVNS played a key role in achieving remarkable enhancement in H2/O2 evolution rates under UV-vis irradiation, showcasing a novel strategy for constructing artificial photosynthesis systems.

Dramatically enhanced solar-driven water splitting of BiVO4 photoanode via strengthening hole transfer and light harvesting by co-modification of CQDs and ultrathin beta-FeOOH layers

Tingsheng Zhou et al.

Summary: An excellent CQDs/FeOOH/BiVO4 photoanode was designed to address the issues of severe bulk and surface charge recombination, sluggish OER kinetics, and narrow visible light harvesting in BiVO4. The photoanode showed dramatically enhanced photocurrent and IPCE, attributed to the synergistic catalysis of CQDs and FeOOH, suppression of bulk charge recombination by CQDs/BiVO4 heterojunction, and increased light harvesting by CQDs.

Alloyed AuPt nanoframes loaded on h-BN nanosheets as an ingenious ultrasensitive near-infrared photoelectrochemical biosensor for accurate monitoring glucose in human tears

Yue Tian et al.

Summary: Photo-electro-chemical (PEC) glucose biosensors have recently gained extensive attention due to their dual advantages of utilizing photon energy for photocatalysis and extra electric field for electrocatalytic oxidation. A novel NIR-PEC biosensor was developed by loading alloyed Au5Pt9 nanoframes on 2D hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) nanosheets, exhibiting higher activity and improved performance for glucose monitoring in human tears. The enhanced synergetic coupling effect between Au5Pt9 nanoalloys and h-BN, along with the superior PEC accuracy and sensitivity under 808 nm NIR light excitation, makes the proposed hBN/Au5Pt9 nanoframes a promising candidate for practical glucose monitoring in biomedicine.
