The Role of Mitochondria-Targeting miRNAs in Intracerebral Hemorrhage

Ilgiz Gareev et al.

Summary: Non-traumatic intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is the most common type of hemorrhagic stroke, often occurring between the ages of 45 and 60. Arterial hypertension is the primary cause of ICH, followed by other factors such as atherosclerosis, blood diseases, inflammation, intoxication and vitamin deficiencies. Mitochondrial dysfunction and dysregulated microRNAs (miRNAs) play important roles in ICH pathogenesis. Although miRNAs within the mitochondrial compartment challenge traditional signaling pathways, their potential as therapeutic targets and non-invasive diagnostic/prognostic biomarkers for ICH is still under-appreciated.

Exosomal RNAs in diagnosis and therapies

Pranay Narang et al.

Summary: The field of extracellular vesicles, particularly exosomes, has been rapidly advancing. Exosomes, ranging from 40 to 160 nm in diameter, are released by most cells in the body and carry molecules that reflect their cell of origin. Of particular importance are the various RNA molecules found in exosomes, which have been linked to regulating biological processes and diseases in the central nervous system, cardiovascular system, metabolism, cancer, and immune system. Furthermore, exosomes also show potential as therapeutic agents for tissue regeneration and conditions resulting from excessive inflammation. Further research is needed to fully understand exosome formation, their biological effects, and their potential as biomarkers and therapeutics.

The Effect of Host miRNAs on Prognosis in COVID-19: miRNA-155 May Promote Severity via Targeting Suppressor of Cytokine Signaling 1 (SOCS1) Gene

Asuman Gedikbasi et al.

Summary: This study found that the miRNA miR-155-5p was significantly upregulated in COVID-19 patients and was associated with disease severity. Overexpression of miR-155-5p increased inflammatory cytokine production and promoted COVID-19 progression. The study suggests that miR-155 may facilitate immune inflammation by targeting SOCS1 and is associated with disease prognosis.

Exosomal miRNA-146a is downregulated in clear cell renal cell carcinoma patients with severe immune-related adverse events

E. Ivanova et al.

Summary: This study investigated the clinical response and treatment-related toxicity of immune checkpoint inhibitors in ccRCC patients by analyzing exosomal miRNA expression levels. The results showed a decreased expression level of miRNA-146a in patients with higher grade toxicity, while miRNA-126, miRNA-218, and miRNA-410 did not show significant differences. The analysis of the rs2910164 gene demonstrated that carriers of the CC genotype and C allele had a higher risk of severe irAEs.

Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome: Literature Review, Epidemiology, Clinical Picture and Pathogenesis

Misbah Tariq et al.

Summary: Hantaviruses, including the Hantaan virus, can cause two types of infections in humans: hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) and hantavirus pulmonary syndrome. HFRS is primarily endemic in Asia and Europe, with the striped field mouse being considered as the main host reservoir. Infection in humans typically occurs accidentally through the aerosolization of rodent excretions, leading to symptoms such as vascular leakage, acute kidney injury, and coagulation abnormalities.

Circulating miR-126 as a Potential Non-invasive Biomarker for Intracra-nial Aneurysmal Rupture: A Pilot Study

Jianing Wu et al.

Summary: The study measured circulating miR-126 levels at different time points, finding higher levels in UIAs patients compared to healthy controls, and a substantial increase from day 1 to day 7 in aSAH patients, peaking on day 7. miR-126 showed high diagnostic value and could serve as a biomarker for detecting IAs and preventing high-risk ruptures.
