Non-target screening and risk assessment of organophosphate esters (OPEs) in drinking water resource water, surface water, groundwater, and seawater

Jianan Huang et al.

Summary: By using an integrated screening strategy, the occurrence and distribution of OPEs in different water samples from Jiangsu Province, China were investigated. The results showed variations in spatial distribution and concentration, with groundwater exhibiting the highest concentration due to pollution from surrounding factories. Among the target OPEs, TEP, TCEP, and TCIPP were the most abundant congeners. In addition, suspect OPEs and non-target OPs were also identified through screening and analysis.

Organophosphate esters in UK diet; exposure and risk assessment

Muideen Remilekun Gbadamosi et al.

Summary: This study provides the first comprehensive dataset on organophosphate esters (OPEs) in the UK diet, revealing that OPEs concentrations are highest in milk and milk products, followed by cereal and cereal products. Interestingly, the concentrations of OPEs in animal-derived and plant-derived foods are statistically indistinguishable. The main contributors to OPEs exposure vary among different age groups, with baby food being a major source for toddlers and non-alcoholic beverages contributing significantly to children.

Organophosphate flame retardants in Hangzhou tap water system: Occurrence, distribution, and exposure risk assessment

Quan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the removal efficiency of OPFRs and investigated the exposure risk in tap water in Hangzhou. The results showed a decline in OPFRs concentrations after treatment, and the exposure doses were much lower than the reference dose. However, residual levels and potential risks of OPFRs in the watershed should still be a concern.

Comprehensive evaluation of organophosphate ester contamination in surface water and sediment of the Bohai Sea, China

Yanjie Qi et al.

Summary: The study investigated the occurrence and distribution of 14 organophosphate esters (OPEs) in surface water and sediment of the whole Bohai Sea. Results showed a wide range of concentrations for OPEs, but the ecological risks to aquatic organisms in the Bohai Sea were considered negligible.

Occurrence of organophosphate esters in surface water and sediment in drinking water source of Xiangjiang River, China

Shengwei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the occurrence of organophosphate esters (OPEs) in the Xiangjiang River, a drinking water source of Changsha City. OPEs in water and sediment samples mostly came from wastewater treatment plants and anthropogenic activities, posing low ecological and human health risks. Interestingly, tap water exhibited higher OPE concentrations and human health risks than river water samples, possibly indicating contamination from water treatment processes or pipe networks.

Organophosphate Diesters in Urban River Sediment from South China: Call for More Research on Their Occurrence and Fate in Field Environment

Chan Liang et al.

Summary: This study examined the co-occurrence of tri- and di-OPEs in urban river sediment and found positive correlations between the levels of di-OPE and tri-OPE compounds. The results suggested that some di-OPE compounds were mainly derived from the degradation of tri-OPE compounds. Further research is needed to better understand the environmental occurrence, behavior, fate, and ecological risk of di-OPEs.
