Environmental Protection, Industrial Structure and Urbanization: Spatiotemporal Evidence from Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, China

Shaojun Ma et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an evaluation index system based on the environmental protection-industrial structure-urbanization system in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration (BTH). Using the coupling degree model and the coupling coordination degree model, the study analyzes the spatial-temporal process, development level, and spatial agglomeration characteristics of the BTH system. The findings show that the coupling degree of the BTH system is increasing, but the development level is unbalanced and there are spatial differences. The paper concludes by suggesting strategies to optimize the regional spatial pattern and achieve desired coupling and coordination effects.

Susceptibility Analysis of Geohazards in the Longmen Mountain Region after the Wenchuan Earthquake

Shuai Li et al.

Summary: Multitemporal geohazard susceptibility analysis provides reliable results and helps in accurate prevention and control of geohazards. The susceptibility of geohazards in the Wenchuan earthquake affected areas gradually increased over time and was correlated with main faults and rivers. Changes in geohazard susceptibility occurred in specific areas, influenced by topography, geology, meteorology, hydrology, and human activities. High elevation, steep slopes, specific geological settings, and rivers have significant effects on geohazard susceptibility.

Quality Control of CyGNSS Reflectivity for Robust Spatiotemporal Detection of Tropical Wetlands

Hironori Arai et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to develop a methodology for evaluating the spatiotemporal dynamics of inundation status in tropical wetlands using GNSS-R data. By proposing a new quality control technique and applying it to the Mekong Delta, the study compared the behaviors of GNSS-R reflectivity and ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 scatter signals.

Wetland Changes and Their Relation to Climate Change in the Pumqu Basin, Tibetan Plateau

Yihao Zhang et al.

Summary: Wetland ecosystems, specifically in the vulnerable Pumqu River Basin, play a crucial role in global environmental security. Wetland distribution, changes, and causes in the PRB are important for rational management and protection. Climate dominates wetland changes in the PRB, with government playing a guiding role through implementing wetland protection policies to achieve sustainable development.

Determination of spatiotemporal changes in Erzurum plain wetland system using remote sensing techniques

Sahset Irdemez et al.

Summary: This study conducted in Erzurum city of Turkey's Eastern Anatolia Region focused on investigating the changes in the surface area of Erzurum Plain Wetland from 1998 to 2017 using remote sensing techniques. The results indicated an expansion in both deep and shallow water areas of the wetland, with deep water areas growing by 118.64% in 28 years. The study also suggested that the increase in underground water reserves may have played a role in the expansion of the wetland.

Spatiotemporal Evolution of Lakes under Rapid Urbanization: A Case Study in Wuhan, China

Chao Wen et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the evolution of 58 lakes in Wuhan, China from 1990 to 2019, revealing a decrease in total lake area, worsening lake landscape, and gradual recovery of lakefront ecology. The research showed that factors such as GDP, RSEI in the lakefront area, precipitation, and humidity contributed to lake restoration, while population growth and IS proportion had varying effects on different lakes. The findings provide useful insights for the government to develop differentiated protection policies for lakes.

Dynamic landscapes and the driving forces in the Yellow River Delta wetland region in the past four decades

Xiaojing Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that from 1980 to 2018, wetland landscapes in the Yellow River Delta underwent significant changes, primarily influenced by factors such as GDP, population, precipitation, and temperature. From 2006 to 2018, with the implementation of environmental policies and increased importance on wetland protection, the rate of wetland area development increased, the landscape type proportions became more balanced, and spatial distribution became more homogenized.

Spatiotemporal characteristics of human activity on coastal landscape of Laizhou Bay

Fan Yang et al.

Summary: The study presented a Human Activity Intensity Index (HAII) and a spatial simulation method for evaluating the impact of human activities on coastal wetland environment. By analyzing the landscape patterns, characteristics of landscape heterogeneity, and human activity intensity in Laizhou Bay, it was found that the increase in human disturbance intensity and urban expansion were consistent with changes in landscape patterns, leading to increased complexity and heterogeneity of landscape patches. The proposed HAII calculation and spatial simulation method accurately reflected the attenuation and combined effects of human activities in coastal areas.

Spatiotemporal Dynamics of Water Body Changes and Their Influencing Factors in the Seasonal Lakes of the Poyang Lake Region

Hai Liu et al.

Summary: Poyang Lake is the largest freshwater lake in China and a key habitat for migratory birds in Asia. Seasonal lakes in the region have significant impacts on hydrological and ecological processes, but research on them is limited. This study analyzed the spatiotemporal variations of seasonal lakes using remote sensing images and found that factors like temperature, evaporation, rainfall, and the Yangtze River influence their water area.

Diffuse Anthropization Impacts in Vulnerable Protected Areas: Comparative Analysis of the Spatial Correlation between Land Transformation and Ecological Deterioration of Three Wetlands in Spain

Salvador Garcia-Ayllon et al.

Summary: The management and conservation of wetlands and vulnerable protected areas highly dependent on water in semi-arid territories like southeastern Spain rely on climate and rainfall. The environmental impact of anthropic diffuse issues transforming surrounding territories is often overlooked, making it hard to measure and analyze. A study proposes a new methodology to evaluate these phenomena, showing spatial correlation patterns between anthropic transformation and degradation of protected areas over time.
