Wildfire Risk Zone Mapping in Contrasting Climatic Conditions: An Approach Employing AHP and F-AHP Models

Summary: This research uses geospatial tools, AHP, and fuzzy-AHP models to identify wildfire risk zones in Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary and Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary. Both natural and anthropogenic factors contribute to the fire occurrences in these areas. The validation of the risk maps shows that both models have high prediction accuracy, with the F-AHP model performing slightly better. The created models can be used to implement effective policies to reduce the impact of fires in similar protected areas.

A Multidisciplinary Approach for Groundwater Potential Mapping in a Fractured Semi-Arid Terrain (Kerdous Inlier, Western Anti-Atlas, Morocco)

Summary: This study developed an approach for spatial mapping of groundwater by considering different factors and statistical models, and applied it to a fractured aquifer basin in Morocco to map the spatial variation of groundwater potential. The study analyzed 15 factors influencing groundwater and evaluated the predictive capacity of the models through flow data from boreholes and apparent resistivity data. The results showed that the models were efficient for hydrogeological mapping in the area, with the FR model being more accurate than the SE model in predicting potential groundwater areas.

Assessment of soil erosion risk in a semi-arid climate watershed using SWAT model: case of Tata basin, South-East of Morocco

Summary: Increased sedimentation reduces dam efficiency by decreasing storage capacity. This study used the SWAT model to estimate sediment production and identify critical sediment source areas in the Tata basin. The model was calibrated and validated, showing good agreement with measured flow data. The annual sediment yield ranged from 0 to 11 t/ha/y, with downstream areas generating more sediment due to increased surface runoff and other basin characteristics.

Insect Outbreak and Long-Term Post-Fire Effects on Soil Erosion in Mediterranean Suburban Forest

Furthermore, the study reveals that the erosion rate in the forest areas affected by a fire 25 years ago is still higher compared to undisturbed forest areas.

Factor influencing land degradation sensitivity and desertification in a drought prone watershed in Thailand
