Impact of Cannabis Seed Incorporation in Layer Diet on Productive Performance and Egg Quality Traits

Yassine Taaifi et al.

Summary: The production of nonindustrial cannabis seeds in the Moroccan Rif region is highly developed, but they are considered low-value by-products by local farmers. This study aimed to investigate the effects of incorporating local hemp seeds on hen laying performance and egg quality. The experiment evaluated the effects of hemp seed incorporation at three levels (10%, 20%, and 30%) on laying hens. Low-rate hemp seed inclusion showed no significant differences in egg-laying performance, while high incorporation rates negatively affected egg-laying performance. Albumen quality and yolk color were also influenced by hemp seed incorporation.

Age of Laying Hens Significantly Influences the Content of Nutritionally Vital Lipophilic Compounds in Eggs

Eun-Young Ko et al.

Summary: This study compared the nutritional compounds in eggs from laying hens of different ages and found that early-age eggs contained higher levels of vital compounds, while intermediate and late-age eggs had better fat quality. Surprisingly, cholesterol levels did not differ significantly among the age groups.

Fatty acid profile of table eggs from laying hens fed hempseed products: A meta-analysis

C. Fabro et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the impact of using hemp products on the fatty acid profiles of eggs produced by laying hens. The results showed that supplementing hen diets with hempseed products increased the polyunsaturated fatty acid content in eggs while decreasing the monounsaturated fatty acid content.

Enriching laying hens eggs by feeding diets with different fatty acid composition and antioxidants

Petru Alexandru Vlaicu et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effects of feeding laying hens different combined vegetable by-products on egg quality and yolk fatty acids. Results showed that diets containing flaxseed and sea buckthorn meals significantly increased the n-3 fatty acid content in egg yolks, improved antioxidant capacity, and lowered thrombogenicity indices. This suggests that these combinations of meals can be beneficial for producing functional eggs with enhanced health properties.

Seed composition of non-industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) varieties from four regions in northern Morocco

Yassine Taaifi et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the chemical composition of hemp seeds from two varieties cultivated in four different regions of northern Morocco. The results showed that the composition of the seeds was strongly influenced by the variety, growing area, and their interaction. The findings could be valuable for breeding programmes aiming to develop non-conventional oil varieties for cosmetic and agro-industrial use.

Kamal Belhaj et al.

Summary: This study found that lambs reared in winter-spring season had better meat quality and higher fat content compared to those reared in summer-autumn season. Meat from summer-autumn lambs had higher levels of unsaturated fatty acids, while meat from winter-spring lambs had a more favorable ratio of unsaturated fatty acids.

Odd chain fatty acids and odd chain phenolic lipids (alkylresorcinols) are essential for diet

Kelly Dornan et al.

Summary: Odd chain fatty acids and odd chain phenolic lipids are considered candidate biomarkers for dietary analysis, with their ingestion being inversely related to chronic disease risks. Studying and understanding their role in disease prevention is essential, as low levels of dietary intake of these odd chain molecules may be linked to higher risks of chronic diseases or mortality. Additional research is needed to explore the relationship between reduced intake of odd chain fatty acids and phenolic lipids and susceptibilities to chronic diseases.

Choline and methionine supplementation in layer hens fed flaxseed: effects on hen production performance, egg fatty acid composition, tocopherol content, and oxidative stability

M. H. Beheshti Moghadam et al.

Summary: The results of this study indicate that adding flaxseed to layer diets can significantly increase the n-3 FA content of egg yolks but may reduce egg production. However, dietary supplementation of Methionine and Choline can improve production performance in hens fed flaxseed-containing diets. Adding Choline to flaxseed can increase egg weight, yolk a-tocopherol levels, PC content, and oxidative stability of eggs compared to hens fed flaxseed alone.
