Stability of circulating microRNAs in serum

Tomas Kupec et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the stability of miRNAs in relation to food intake and sample storage by quantifying the serum miRNA expression levels of 16 different miRNAs from 8 healthy volunteers. The results showed that storage conditions slightly affected the detectability of miRNA, with only one miRNA (miRNA 22-3p) showing significant lower expression dependent on storage conditions. However, miRNA levels were not influenced by food intake. The study suggests that miRNAs are relatively stable tools in laboratory diagnostics and have potential as innovative biomarkers in oncology research.

DSCAM/PAK1 pathway suppression reverses neurogenesis deficits in iPSC-derived cerebral organoids from patients with Down syndrome

Xiao-Yan Tang et al.

Summary: The study found that neurogenesis was significantly affected in DS patients, with reduced proliferation and expression of layer II and IV markers in cortical neurons in the subcortical regions, which may have led to the reduced size of the organoids. Additionally, suppressing the enhanced activity of the DSCAM/PAK1 pathway in DS reversed abnormal neurogenesis, increasing the size of organoids derived from DS iPSCs.
