Modelling Changes in Bone and Body Composition Over a Season in Elite Male Footballers

Ian Varley et al.

Summary: This study investigated the changes in bone and body composition characteristics of elite football players and recreationally active controls over a season. Results showed that football players had higher characteristics than controls for most variables, with significant individual variation in baseline values for both groups. There were increases in bone mineral density, bone mineral content, and tibial bone mass and area for football players over the season, with individual variation in the rate of increase.
