Summary: The increasing use of synthetic nicotine in marketed products and its uncertain regulatory status have raised concerns. Efforts to develop more efficient methods for the synthesis of nicotine have been seen in recent years. Differentiation of synthetic and tobacco-derived nicotine may require the development of methods to measure carbon isotope content. Vendors argue that FDA has no authority to regulate synthetic nicotine as a tobacco product, but legal analysis suggests that FDA may have the authority to regulate synthetic nicotine as a drug.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the public interest in shopping for JUUL and Puff Bar products from 2019 to 2021 and analyzed the impact of various regulatory, company sales policy, and other events on the trajectory of these products. The results showed that after certain significant events, the shopping interest and sales of JUUL declined while those of Puff Bar peaked.
