Preparation of exosomes encapsulated nanohydrogel for accelerating wound healing of diabetic rats by promoting angiogenesis

Yiyao Zhang et al.

Summary: The study showed that exosomes derived from HUCMSCs encapsulated in a nanohydrogel could promote proliferation, migration, and angiogenesis of endothelial cells, as well as accelerate diabetic wound healing. The nanohydrogel also upregulated the expression of wound healing-related molecules and increased VEGF levels through the ERK1/2 pathway, significantly enhancing the healing of diabetic wounds in rats by promoting angiogenesis.

An Overview of Engineered Hydrogel-Based Biomaterials for Improved β-Cell Survival and Insulin Secretion

Azin Ghasemi et al.

Summary: Islet transplantation is a promising strategy for treating type 1 diabetes by replacing damaged beta-cells with new islets in a minimally invasive procedure. However, it faces significant drawbacks such as long-term immunosuppression and a lack of compatible donors. Biomaterial-assisted islet transplantation, particularly using hydrogels, is an emerging technology that aims to overcome these challenges and improve beta-cell viability, decrease inflammatory responses, and enhance insulin secretion.
