Identification and characterization of high mobility group box 1 and high mobility group box 2 in Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baerii)

Lu Lu et al.

Summary: The study identified HMGB1 and HMGB2 in Acipenser baerii and found that these proteins play important roles in DNA damage repair, immune response, and inflammation. The expression of these proteins was detected in multiple tissues and was significantly induced after infection and PAMPs treatment, suggesting their involvement in the pathogenic infection process. This provides a basis for further understanding the mechanism of enteritis induced by Streptococcus iniae in Acipenser baerii.

SignalP 6.0 predicts all five types of signal peptides using protein language models

Felix Teufel et al.

Summary: Signal peptides are short amino acid sequences that regulate protein secretion and translocation. SignalP 6.0, a machine learning model, is introduced to detect all types of signal peptides, including those applicable to metagenomic data.

Molecular characterization of HEPCIDIN-1 (HAMP1) gene in red-bellied pacu (Piaractus brachypomus)

Julieth Michel Petano-Duque et al.

Summary: This study characterizes the HAMP1 gene and its expression in different tissues, as well as its regulation in brain injury and organophosphate exposure in Piaractus brachypomus. The study suggests that the HAMP1 gene may be involved in inflammatory, antimicrobial, hypoxia and oxidative stress response.

Protective effect of protexin concentrate in reducing the toxicity of chlorpyrifos in common carp (Cyprinus carpio)

Mahdi Banaee et al.

Summary: The present study aimed to evaluate the protective effect of protexin supplementation against chlorpyrifos-induced oxidative stress and immunotoxicity in Cyprinus carpio. Protexin reduced oxidative damage and ameliorated the abnormal blood biochemical parameters and immunosuppression caused by chlorpyrifos.

First study on response of astrocytes in alevines of red-bellied pacu (Piaractus brachypomus) to subchronic exposure to chlorpyrifos and trichlorfon

Gisella Karina Holguin-Cespedes et al.

Summary: This study examined the astrocytic response in the brain tissue of juvenile red-bellied pacu exposed to trichlorfon and chlorpyrifos. The results showed higher cellular density and changes in astrocyte phenotype in the exposed group, indicating astrocyte hyperreactivity. These findings suggest that immunoreactivity of brain glial cells and OPs-induced neuropathology can serve as biomarkers for monitoring environmental pollution.

Ameliorative Effect of D-Carvone against Hepatic Ischemia-Reperfusion-Induced Injury in Rats

Maged E. Mohamed et al.

Summary: The study found that pretreatment with D-carvone can protect the liver against damage induced by hepatic ischemia-reperfusion. D-carvone downregulates the expression of HMGB1, TLR4, NF kappa B, and NLP3, leading to a reduction in adhesion molecules, neutrophil infiltration, inflammatory mediators, and apoptotic markers.

Dietary exposure to environmentally relevant pesticide mixtures impairs swimming performance and lipid homeostatic gene expression in Juvenile Chinook salmon at elevated water temperatures

Neil Fuller et al.

Summary: Traditional risk assessment methods only consider individual pesticide compounds, but this study found that the effects of pesticide exposure on salmon can be modulated by temperature and may be exacerbated under future climate scenarios.

Molecular characterization of myelin basic protein a (mbpa) gene from red-bellied pacu (Piaractus brachypomus)

Juan Sebastian Cruz-Mendez et al.

Summary: This study molecularly characterized the mbpa gene from the Colombian native fish, red-bellied pacu. The results revealed that mbpa belongs to the myelin basic protein family and is closely related to orthologous proteins. Gene expression of mbpa was upregulated in response to sublethal chlorpyrifos exposure.

Prediction of GPI-anchored proteins with pointer neural networks

Magnus Halldor Gislason et al.

Summary: GPI anchors are crucial for linking proteins to the outer face of the plasma membrane in eukaryotic cells. Researchers have developed a new method, NetGPI, based on recurrent neural networks and attention mechanism, for predicting GPI anchoring signals. NetGPI outperforms existing methods in discriminating between GPI-anchored proteins and other secretory proteins.
