Creating, Preserving, and Directing Carboxylate Radicals in Ni-Catalyzed C(sp3)-H Acyloxylation of Ethers, Ketones, and Alkanes with Diacyl Peroxides

Vera A. Vil' et al.

Summary: The reaction of Ni(II) acetate with diacyl peroxides produces high-valence Ni-species capable of catalytic oxidative acyloxylation of C(sp3)-H bonds in ethers, ketones, and alkanes. The desired esters were obtained in 20-82% yields. Computational and experimental analyses revealed various viable C-H activation patterns, with the spirocyclopropyl moiety playing a crucial role in preventing premature radical decarboxylation.

Carboxylate as a Non-innocent L-Ligand: Computational and Experimental Search for Metal-Bound Carboxylate Radicals

Leah Kuhn et al.

Summary: We demonstrate that the carboxylate radical can coordinate with certain high-spin transition metal centers as an L-ligand. This coordination maintains the O-radical character required for C-H activation through hydrogen atom transfer. The capture of the new C-radical by the metal and subsequent reductive elimination leads to formal C-H acyloxylation. Decarboxylation of the RCO2 radical is minimized due to the hybridization effects introduced by the spiro-cyclopropyl moiety.

4,4′-(Butane-1,4-diyl)bis(4-methyl-1,2-dioxolane-3,5-dione)

Vera A. Vil' et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that cyclic diacyl peroxides exhibit superior reactivity compared to their acyclic counterparts in various reactions, and even display fundamentally new characteristics. In this study, a novel diperoxide was synthesized and its structure was confirmed through various characterization techniques. The compound was prepared with a 55% overall yield in three steps from dibromobutane and diethyl methylmalonate.

Activation of O-Electrophiles via Structural and Solvent Effects: SN2@O Reaction of Cyclic Diacyl Peroxides with Enol Acetates

Vera A. Vil' et al.

Summary: This article investigates the reactions of O-electrophiles with carbon nucleophiles and the influence of fluorinated alcohols on the reaction. Experimental and computational analysis reveals that fluorinated alcohols play a dual role in the reaction cascade.

Synthesis of Coprinol and Several Alcyopterosin Sesquiterpenes by Regioselective [2+2+2] Alkyne Cyclotrimerization

Amir Tavakoli et al.

Summary: The bimolecular regioselective cyclotrimerization technique was successfully applied to the total synthesis of coprinol and several related alkypopterosins from the illudalane family of sesquiterpenes. The synthesis of coprinol from dimedone was completed in six steps with a 57% overall yield. Different congeners, including alkypopterosins A, B, O and two additional ones, were also obtained within six steps by alternative functional group manipulations.

Oxidative α-acyloxylation of acetals with cyclic diacyl peroxides

Vera A. Vil et al.

Summary: The oxidative C-O coupling of cyclic diacyl peroxides with acetals enables the selective functionalization of the non-activated acetal alpha-position. The reaction produces alpha-acyloxy acetals with a free carboxylic acid group in yields ranging from 42-85%.

Recent advances in reactions using diacyl peroxides as sources of O- and C-functional groups

Shintaro Kawamura et al.

Summary: Diacyl peroxides are commonly used reagents in organic synthesis due to their roles as electrophiles, oxidants, and radical sources. Recent studies have shown that diacyl peroxides can serve as sources of O and C-functional groups, expanding their synthetic utility and allowing for controlled reactivity in organic reactions.
