Think Twice before Seeking Private Supplementary Tutoring in Mathematics: A Data Set from China Questioned Its Effectiveness

Effects of private tutoring intervention on students' academic achievement: A systematic review based on a three-level meta-analysis model and robust variance estimation method

Responsibilised parents and shadow education: managing the precarious environment in China

According to these literatures, parents are increasingly taking responsibility for their children's education alongside mainstream schooling. This paper focuses on Chinese patterns and discusses the reasons behind parental investment in supplementary education, despite government efforts to maintain schooling as the sole form of education. The study suggests that the competitive society in China pushes parents to seek additional support for their children's education.

A bibliometric mapping of shadow education research: achievements, limitations, and the future

Multiple systems, multiple shadows: Diversity of supplementary tutoring received by private-school students in Dubai

Approximately half of these students receive supplementary tutoring, which is commonly known as shadow education. The different school systems in Dubai have distinct forms of tutoring, influenced by curriculum demands and student cultures. Some tutoring is provided within the schools, while others are sought externally. The school-provided tutoring patterns are shaped by the business models of the operators, with some schools including tutoring in their fees and others requiring separate payments. Additionally, the policies of school principals also contribute to the variations, resulting in multiple systems with multiple shadows.

Do School-Related Factors Affect Private Tutoring Attendance? Predictors of Private Tutoring in Maths and German among German Tenth-Gradersa

Summary: This study investigates the role of school-related factors in private tutoring attendance in mathematics and German among Grade 10 students in Germany.
