WO3 center dot H2O nanoflakes were successfully synthesized by using a facile, effective, and green sonochemical route with distilled water as solvent. The as-synthesized WO3 center dot H2O nanoflakes have been characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. The WO3 center dot H2O nanoflakes deposited onto different substrates have been found to exhibit highly stable electrochromic (EC) performance with high color contrast and fast response time. A flexible electrochromic device (ECD) based on the WO3 center dot H2O nanoflakes have been assembled with polyethylene terephthalate coated with ITO (ITO-PET) as substrate. The ideal electrochromic activities in combination with flexibility make the WO3 center dot H2O nanoflakes-based ECDs promising candidate in flexible electronics. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V.
