Gram scales Ni ferrite nano-octahedrons are prepared by cost effective and facile hydrothermal method. The mass of as-synthesized Ni ferrite nano-octahedron is about 1.37 g. Nano-octahedron of Ni ferrite are highly uniform and the edge length of octahedron is 80 nm. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and selected area electron diffraction (SAED) pattern confirm that octahedron nanoparticles are single crystalline. The direct and indirect band gaps are acquired to be 1.55 eV and 1.7 eV respectively. The saturation magnetization, coercivity, and remanent magnetization are obtained to be 55.1 emu/g, 69 Oe, and 9.8 emu/g respectively. This method is useful to synthesize the Ni ferrite nanostructure for commercial and industrial scale. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
