Structures and biological functions of zinc finger proteins and their roles in hepatocellular carcinoma

Xinxin Li et al.

Summary: Zinc finger proteins, characterized by their different DNA binding motifs, play a significant role in gene regulation. In hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), zinc finger proteins exhibit diverse functions in tumorigenesis and progression, and they are also of great significance in HCC diagnosis and prognostic evaluation.

A Novel Prognostic Model for Identifying the Risk of Hepatocellular Carcinoma Based on Angiogenesis Factors

Yuan Gao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the stratification and prognostic evaluation ability of angiogenic factors in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients and established a novel prognostic risk model. The model showed good predictive efficacy and could help identify HCC patients at a higher risk of death. Additionally, the model demonstrated good diagnostic performance in clinical practice.

Association of zinc level with DNA methylation and its consequences: A systematic review

Ziauddin Azimi et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the influence of zinc on gene-specific and global DNA methylation in humans and rodents. The findings show that zinc deficiency is associated with gene-specific hypomethylation in humans and hypermethylation in rodents. Zinc does not affect LINE-1 methylation in humans. The effect of zinc on global methylation varies depending on cell type in humans and rodents. DNA hypomethylation generally increases gene expression, but some studies show that zinc deficiency can lead to reduced gene expression or no alteration in mRNA levels and corresponding protein levels.

Induction of HOX Genes by Hepatitis C Virus Infection via Impairment of Histone H2A Monoubiquitination

Hirotake Kasai et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that HCV infection or HCV core protein expression impairs monoubiquitination of histone H2A K119 in the homeobox (HOX) gene promoter via destabilization of RNF2 and then induces HOX genes. These findings reveal a novel mechanism of HCV-related histone modification and may provide information about new targets for diagnosis and prevention of HCC occurrence.

Assessing ZNF154 methylation in patient plasma as a multicancer marker in liquid biopsies from colon, liver, ovarian and pancreatic cancer patients

Brendan F. Miller et al.

Summary: The study found that high methylation of ZNF154 CpG island could be an effective cancer diagnostic marker, particularly for early stage tumors, when applied in liquid biopsy. ZNF154 cfDNA methylation showed promising results in distinguishing cases from healthy individuals in minimal plasma volumes and outperformed KRAS mutation frequency in pancreatic cancer detection.

Epigenetic dysregulation of immune-related pathways in cancer: bioinformatics tools and visualization

Anders Berglund et al.

Summary: Bioinformatics tools help identify the evasion of the immune system by cancer, with abnormal genomic chemical modifications playing a crucial role. Immunotherapy is a powerful weapon against cancer, but tumors often evade it by subduing the immune response through epigenetic dysregulation. Tools and resources are available to help decipher the cancer epigenome and potentially lead to better therapies.
